Workshop
ALA’s Workshop Sessions provide community members with opportunities to learn new skills, gain knowledge, and engage in hands-on activities that promote personal and professional growth. From educational programs like GED and ESL support to cultural crafts and culinary arts, our workshops are designed to empower participants, strengthen community ties, and preserve Garífuna traditions. Each session encourages collaboration, creativity, and lifelong learning, creating a supportive environment where individuals of all ages can build confidence, share experiences, and connect with the broader Garífuna community.

Healthcare
ALA’s Healthcare Workshops are designed to educate and empower community members to take charge of their health and well-being. Participants learn about preventive care, nutrition, mental health, chronic disease management, and accessing local healthcare resources. These workshops provide practical guidance, answer questions, and connect attendees with trusted medical services. By promoting awareness and healthy habits, our Healthcare Workshops strengthen the Garífuna community, ensuring that families have the knowledge and tools they need to lead healthier, more informed lives.

Domestic Workers
Domestic Worker Support Program is dedicated to empowering Garífuna domestic workers by providing resources, training, and advocacy. The program offers guidance on workers’ rights, workplace safety, fair wages, and access to essential benefits. Through workshops, one-on-one support, and community networking, domestic workers gain the knowledge and tools needed to protect themselves and advance professionally. By fostering education, empowerment, and solidarity, ALA helps domestic workers navigate challenges, build confidence, and strengthen their economic and social well-being within the community.

The National Domestic Workers Alliance
ALA partners with the National Domestic Worker Alliance (NDWA) to provide sessions that empower Garífuna domestic workers with knowledge, resources, and advocacy tools. These sessions focus on workers’ rights, fair labor practices, workplace safety, and access to benefits and protections. Participants gain guidance on navigating employment challenges, building professional networks, and advocating for themselves in the workplace. By connecting with NDWA and fostering community solidarity, these sessions strengthen the voice and agency of domestic workers while promoting economic and social well-being within the Garífuna community.

We Dream In Black
We Dream in Black sessions celebrate and uplift Black identity, culture, and achievement within the Garífuna community. These sessions provide a space for dialogue, reflection, and empowerment, highlighting the contributions of Black Garífuna individuals while addressing social, cultural, and economic challenges. Participants engage in workshops, storytelling, and discussions that foster pride, resilience, and solidarity. By centering Black voices and experiences, the program strengthens community connections, inspires leadership, and nurtures a deeper understanding of heritage and identity for current and future generations.
